Music and Movement

We aim to provide exciting, vibrant music sessions for 0-5 year olds where both child and caregiver experience the joys of singing, dancing, listening to, and creating music in a nurturing environment. The sessions include both lively and peaceful activities, are suitable for both girls and boys, and use a wide range of fun equipment.

Sessions are held on Monday mornings, during school term time, at Oxford Baptist Church Hall, 166 High Street, Oxford.

The music sessions cost $2 per family per session and are around 35 minutes long.

Session times are:

  • 10am for all age pre-schoolers - led by Carolyn Quartly.
Drop in session (no need to book in advance).

  • 11am baby session - led by Carolyn Quartly.
Suitable for 0-2 years.Drop in session (no need to book in advance). Older siblings welcome.

  • A free morning tea is provided between the sessions. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents from the community and make new friends and organise playdates for your child.

Both sessions are designed around the caregivers participating with their children during the activities.

A music session may include:

  • A hello songbabybubbles
  • A Musical Octave song or vocal warm up song (for developing awareness of pitch)
  • Some sounds from nature (for listening)
  • One or two finger play songs (for fine motor skills)
  • Action songs to stimulate the vestibular system (inner ear/balance)
  • Cross-the-midline songs (to use both the left and right brain)
  • Action songs to promote gross motor skills eg. jumping, hopping and skipping

  • Songs using props such as bean bags, clave sticks, poi, large elastic rainbow ring and teddy bears.
