Pastoral Staff

SENIOR PASTORS

Greg and Joy Morris

Greg & Joy Morris were appointed assistant pastors in July 2007 and now are Associate Pastors as from 2010.

Greg and JoyThey were married and settled here in Oxford 23 years ago, and began their family of four children. They came to faith together 19 years ago here at the Oxford Baptist Church after Greg experienced a healing to a back injury, and have grown in the time since under the leadership and example of Pastors Maurice and Miriam.

Greg & Joy have both served in the areas of youth group and cell leadership. Joy also has worked in the area of women's events, and Greg has served on the Eldership until his appointment as Assistant Pastor. Their passion is for the lost to find Jesus.

CHURCH GOVERNMENT

As a Baptist church and member of the Baptist Union Of Churches of New Zealand, Oxford is congregationally Governed, meaning, the big decisions like employing staff and Elders or spending large amounts of money are to be approved by the congregation.

However, the congregation has appointed Elders to work with the Pastor and be responsible for the forward vision, spiritual health and direction of the church. The Church is also run day to day by the staff, who consist of the Pastors and the heads of Departments like Youth,Children, Music, Small Groups etc.

Unless special circumstances dictate, there are two congregational meetings a year. At the Annual General Meeting the staff present their reports and the balance sheets and budgets are approved for the coming year. Every person carrying responsibility has been released to develop their ministry but ultimately is responsible back to the Staff Meeting, the Elders and to report to the congregation. We want to have a permission giving environment as we understand not everyone is gifted to lead a ministry, but tempered also with accountability for the protection of us all.

PASTORS ADVISORY

Maurice and Miriam Atkinson

Maurice and Miriam have Pastored Oxford Baptist from 1982 to 2015. They moved to Oxford from Christchurch with their family of three children. They formerly attended the Christchurch New Life Centre and bought a contemporary charismatic worship style to the church. Under their leadership the church grew numerically and over the years other ministries have been added to the church.maurice miriam

They both continue to preach and have a strong prophetic gifting, Miriam is also an intercessor. They regularly lecture to courses on the Power of the Holy Spirit at YWAM bases and have spoken at many churches, Camps and some conferences in New Zealand over the years.

In 1992 they suffered the tragic death of their youngest daughter Caroline who was a vibrant young Christian. That has been part of a strong motivation in them to see people establish a strong foundation in Jesus Christ. Their hearts desire has been to see Oxford Baptist established as a community where people can discover who they are in Christ, and to find healing and maturity as they understand why He has called them.

Maurice now holds a role with the Baptist Church Union as the Regional Missions Leader.
